By Nigel Parry—The Lowertown Drawing Circle was founded around 10 years ago after a Sunday afternoon coffee bar conversation between Lowertown artists Ta-coumba Aiken and Lisa Mathieson. In a May 2019 post announcing a hiatus, on the drawing circle’s Facebook group page, co-founder Lisa wrote:

“We’ve laughed. We’ve learned from each other. We’ve forged friendships. In all, we’ve had a good run, with hundreds of photos on our website to prove it!”

The event was very popular, drawing 10-15 people weekly to gather around a “community table” and work on whatever art projects they wanted to. People swop pencil and paper recommendations, drawing tips, and stories.

The good news is that the Lowertown Drawing Circle is back, at least through the end of February, meeting every Sunday from 1-3pm at Just/Us eatery and events, across from the Farmers’ Market in Lowertown. All are welcome from all ages. RSVP on the Facebook event page here.
